University of Scouting / Pow Wow InteliScout Registration Procedure

Folks,

I have had several people e-mail or call me because they can't figure out how to sign up for classes on InteliScout – after they have set up an account.  Here is a step-by-step procedure, which you may pass on to those who might need help:

·         Go to http://www.inteliscout.com/ website
·         If this is first time, create an account with "New Member" link.
·         Thereafter, select "Member Login", and enter account name and password
·         This takes you to your council's events.
·         Select University of Scouting / Pow Wow
·         This takes you to the event page.  Read information, then…
·         Click the "Register" the first time only.  You get a quick message verifying that you are "registered" but that's all.  Don't give up.
·         Thereafter, select "Enter" to go to or return to your UOS/PW page
·         From the menus on left select "Course Offerings" to see table of courses and their assigned time periods.  Click on a title to see a brief description of the class.  Keep notes of what you want to take.  Close "Course Offerings" window.  You do not make your class selection here.
·         Select "Checkout"  from menu.  This is where you actually select the classes; and where you pay, later.
·         Choose "Schedule" button to bring up course selection options.
·         Highlight each class you want in the Available Courses window, in priority order, and move to Selected Courses window with the << button.  Unselect with the >> button.
·         When all classes have been selected, click the "Save" button at the bottom of page.
·         Click "Checkout" from left menu, again to go to pay options or to leave registration, for now.  You can return later and revise course selections and pay either on-line or by mailed-in form.
·         Select Log Out button to complete.

There are options for units to group all participants and pay at once, but that is more complicated than it is worth for this event.  Note: do not ever select "Unregister" unless you really mean to cancel all previous input.

Roundtable/Council PTC Promotional

Greetings from the Philmont Training Center!
October is an exciting month in the Boy Scouts of America, and we hope your fall recruitment is going well.  With so many new leaders joining the BSA this time of year, adult leader training becomes an even more important topic.  As part of your discussions about training we encourage you to talk about Philmont Training Center (PTC), the National Training Center of the BSA.
To assist you in this effort, we have attached a copy of our two-page flyer detailing our 2012 PTC Conference Schedule.  In addition, here is a link to the flyer for you to add to your local council website and social media pages to help promote PTC:  http://scouting.org/filestore/philmont/pdf/2012PTCConferenceFlyer.pdf.   This is a terrific handout for your next district roundtables!  At the end of this email is a script for use at district Roundtables that will help explain PTC programs.
We know that when volunteers from your council attend a PTC conference they can help strengthen your local Scouting program.  Thank you for your continued efforts to promote the Philmont Training Center.  Please contact me if you have any further questions at Andrea.Watson@Scouting.org.
In Scouting,
Andrea Watson
Associate Director of Program/Philmont Training Center
Script for PTC Roundtable Promotion "Training Highlight"
Since 1950, Philmont Training Center in Cimarron, New Mexico has served as the National Training Center of the Boy Scouts of America.  Each summer, conferences are conducted at "PTC" by the various departments and committees of the BSA national council.  In 2012 there are dozens of exciting conferences to choose from that cover all aspects and programs of Scouting!  You are invited!  Don't miss the chance to come to PTC next summer. Plus individuals who register by December 31, 2011 will qualify for the early bird registration price!
One of the most unique opportunities of a week at PTC is the chance to enjoy the magic of Philmont with your family.  While you learn the "best methods" of Scouting in your conference, your family members will enjoy hikes into the Philmont backcountry, horseback rides, crafts, games, and so much more!  You'll also have plenty of opportunities to explore Philmont and the surrounding area together as a family.  This will surely be a Scouting adventure you will never forget.
To register to attend PTC, log onto your MyScouting account at www.MyScouting.org and then click on the "event registration" tab.  For more details about PTC, visit www.PhilmontTrainingCenter.org

Unit Inventories and Recharter Packets

Cross Timbers District,
At October and November Round Table Recharter Packets will be available for pick up. We need a representative of each unit to come by to sign for and pick up the recharter packet. There will be lots of great information inside the packets this year. The on-line system will become active for units to use 60 days before the recharter expires which is November 1st. 2011.
Recharter turn in will be at December Round Table. It is every important that we complete this process for every unit by the middle of December.
Also take a moment to create a roster for your unit in word, excel, or troop master for the unit inventories that need to be completed by the end of October. Unit inventories can be printed off and turned in at Round Table, e-mailed to 662crosstimbers@bsamail.org, or faxed Attn: 29 Membership Committee 817 231 8600.

October Cub Roundtable

As we move into Fall, it's time to really gear up our Scouting programs. With that in mind, be sure to attend Cub Scout Roundtable next Tuesday.
Since it is Fall, the room should be cooler. The staff, of course, are always cool.
The theme for November is Citizenship, so be a good Citizen and show up at 7:30 pm at Pantego Christian Academy.

See you there,

Robotics competition and Lego Mindstorm

Normally I do not post items that are not directly BSA related. However, my son is doing this with his 4H club and it looks to be a really neat program and competition. It uses the Lego Mindstorm to compete in challenges to solve various problems..
