Make History at the 2013 National Scout Jamboree

 Dear Scouter,
It's not very often that you have a chance to be part of history. The 2013 National Scout Jamboree scheduled for July 15-24, 2013, is that opportunity. This will be the first event at the BSA's new jamboree home, the Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve.
It will be the most action-packed Scouting event ever, with mountain biking, paddleboarding, zip lines, canopy tours, rafting, kayaking, and much, much more. The 2013 Jamboree will also include all the things you love from previous jamborees - patch trading, scuba, etc.
There is only one first time, and this is it. We want you to join us!
There are three ways that you can be a part of the 2013 National Scout Jamboree.
*  Serve as a staff member for the entire jamboree.
*  Serve as a unit leader for a troop or crew from your council.
*  Short on time? Serve as a staff member for half of the jamboree.
Sign up today! You can learn more at www.bsajamboree.org, or find us on Facebook at facebook.com/TheBechtelSummit.
If you have already applied to attend the jamboree, make sure your fellow Scouters have signed up, too! You will definitely want to share this experience with them.
Don't miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I look forward to seeing you at the Summit.
Yours in Scouting,
Larry Pritchard
Director of Program/Jamboree

Internet Advancement System

Internet Advancement System
Process ranks and awards for packs, troops, teams, crews, ships, and posts
Units can now submit advancement for unit youth members online using BSA's Internet Advancement system. You will find this method to be easy, convenient, and accurate because you will enter the information yourself. The system is separate from Internet Rechartering, but uses a similar concept. Unit leaders can record awards, ranks, and merit badges directly to BSA's official youth member records with the online system.
Use Internet Advancement for the following:
• Add ranks, merit badges, and awards
• Update information on existing advancements (excepting the Eagle Scout rank).
To use Internet Advancement: (accessed through myscouting.org under Unit Tools.)
1. Select your unit advancement processor. This person must have Internet connectivity and Microsoft Internet Explorer.
2. Obtain a unit ID code from the District Advancement Chair or District Executive 662crosstimbers@bsamail.org.
3. Gather information for advancement, including merit badge applications and advancement records with dates.
4. Click "Internet Advancement" below on this page. Follow the instructions in Internet Advancement to process advancements and print an advancement report.
5. Have the appropriate people sign the printed unit advancement report and submit it to the council. Save a copy for your files. Units should submit monthly before the end of each month, or more often if needed.
6. In December, submit a report before the end of the month to update your unit and council statistics.

Talk to your Commissioners or District Advancement Chairman. Additionally, anyone who wants to learn more about Internet Advancement can review the Internet Advancement Help Information.
There is a Frequently Asked Questions link on the Internet Advancement site and these should be reviewed.  If you encounter any issues in using the Internet Advancement site, please contact the National Service Desk at 1-877-272-1910 for assistance.

Camp Card Info

Dear Camp Card Scouter:
It is the council's amended agreement with Kroger's corporate office that we will sell Popcorn in front of Kroger's but will refrain from selling camp cards in front of them.  This was made when forced to choose one or the other campaign. We apologize for any confusion there may have been.  The Kroger Stores are NOT to be contacted.
The Camp card campaign should be very effective in helping boys to pay for camping opportunities even without selling at the Kroger stores.  Not only will the customer get their $5.00 back on groceries, they get $ 1.00 immediately on Wendy's, 50% off on Ranger tickets, 33% off on Pappa John's pizza, and more.
The cards will be available between Feb. 24 and 27th.  We will pre count out 20 cards for each youth you reported as selling.  They may have more cards at your request.  Stay in touch with your DE and with Becky.  To access the Leader's Guide, please follow this link:http://www.longhorncouncil.org/Info/Support-Scouting/Camp-Cards.aspx
Thanks very much.
