[ArlingtonConservationCouncil] Help needed to publicize FOCUS nature photo contest for young people

We would especially like to promote the FOCUS photo contest to youth scouting groups.  If you have any good contacts with these groups, could you please get in touch with me?

The ACC FOCUS nature photo contest is awarding cash prizes again this year.
The goal is to get young people out to experience nature.  Photos must be taken in an Arlington area park or in one's backyard and uploaded before 1Nov14.  Winners are those who capture nature best in their photos, so any quality camera is fine to use.  Prizes will again be awarded at the January membership meeting and potluck lunch.  A flyer is attached.  Complete details are on the FOCUS site at www.acctexas.org/focus

Please forward this email to any young person or group in which eligible young people may be participating.   If you can help by putting our printed flyers (sample attached) in any location or by publicizing the FOCUS contest in any way, contact me or a board member to avoid duplicating efforts.  Board members are disseminating flyers, but we can always use your help if you have access to groups of Arlington area young people who will in grades 3-6 in the fall.

Thanks for your help.

THE LONGHORN TIMES
Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.  The vital force of labor added materially to the highest standard of living and the greatest production the world has ever known and has brought us closer to the realization of our traditional ideals of economic and political democracy. It is appropriate, therefore, that the nation pay tribute on Labor Day to the creator of so much of the nation's strength, freedom, and leadership — the American worker.
Sixty-five Scout units in the Longhorn Council earned FREE Rank Advancement by reaching their 2014 Family FOS Goal. View the list of units. The biggest change in 2015 will be the inclusion of Belt Loops in the Cub Scout Recognition package. Units can begin to set their goals now. Contact your district Executive. They will need to get your goal approved before your presentation.
How to Use Social Media to Help Make Your Fall Roundup Successful:  As units prepare for their roundups this fall, several tools have been developed to help them be more successful. Please preview those tools as you plan your membership efforts.
On September 5th and 6th, the University of North Texas will host a Boy Scout Campout that includes the SMU game on Saturday.  View the flyer and additional information about the event.
The council is offering a Basic Archery Instructor Class in September.  Registration information can be found here.
