August Roundtable

The August 12th Roundtable will be different.  It is very important that each unit be represented.
The evening will be all communication – and I am not talking about the Communication Merit badge. It will be the District communicating to the Units about Finance, Membership, Program, Training, and Unit Service. The roundtable will also be about the Units communicating to the District  the names of key contact persons and key dates related to these five functions. It really is essential for each unit to be represented. Please 'be prepare' to share the names and contact information of key volunteers in your Unit. See the attached notice.
Roundtable is scheduled for August 12th, 7:30PM at the Pantego Christian Academy on Park Row.

Learning is Naturally Fun at Nature School! Enroll Today.
Nature School Fun

At River Legacy's Nature School, children ages 3 to 5 safely explore the woodland habitats just outside the doors of River Legacy Living Science Center while learning about the plants and animals that call River Legacy Parks home. Indoors, the students actively participate in songs, stories, art, dramatic play and center time exploration. This unique preschool enrichment program is led by certified early childhood education instructors who guide the children through age-appropriate engaging, hands-on curriculum focused on developing math and science process skills! But guess what - the children are having too much fun to realize that they are actually learning and building a foundation of knowledge to carry them through elementary school and beyond! Nature School is truly Naturally Fun Learning!

Children attend Nature School classes once a week from September through May. Classes are offered Monday through Friday with extended day and half-day options. To learn more about Nature School or to enroll in an available class, call 817.860.6752, ext. 102; email registrar@riverlegacy.org or visit www.riverlegacy.org.

NEW! Adopt a Wildlife Ambassador!
Opossum

Wildlife ambassadors are an integral part of River Legacy Living Science Center's education and outreach programs. These animals provide a way for Nature Center visitors to learn more about these native animals and to interact with them in a safe environment. Through them, children and adults can learn, appreciate and understand the wildlife just outside their doors.

Through our Animal Ambassador Adoption Program, you can
support the care of these animals and assist the education programs that strive to encourage understanding and preservation of their natural habitats.

When you adopt one of our wildlife ambassadors for just $25, you will receive a photo of the ambassador, a wildlife fact card of the ambassador and adoption certificate. See other sponsorship levels for more benefits. To begin the adoption process, download and complete the sponsorship form and e-mail it to mary@riverlegacy.org, or you may drop it off or mail it to River Legacy Living Science Center, 703 NW Green Oaks Blvd., Arlington, TX, 76006. If the Ambassador Adoption is a gift for someone, please include recipient's full name and complete mailing information.

Woodwork Merit Badge - This is a great opportunity!

Crosstimbers  Scouts

My name is Rodney Gibson and I am a new Woodwork Merit Badge counselor for the Crosstimbers District. I am an Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 380 where my son Nick is a registered Scout. I have been a Carpenter by profession for the last 37 years and love what I do and wanted to help scouts discover the joys of working with wood and the satisfaction from building something with their hands.

I will be having my first Merit Badge class Saturday September 6th 2014 at Northwest Christian Church 2001 N. David Dr. Arlington TX from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM . There will be some prework before the class and the majority of the class will be devoted to the actual building of the required projects for the Merit Badge. Since safety is key to any woodworking project, my class will be only 8 Scouts to provide proper supervision. Any additional adult supervision by parents is welcomed.
Prerequisites to take my class will be the following:

  • ·       The scout must have earned his Totin’ Chip and bring to the class
  • ·       The Scout must bring a Blue Card for the Woodworking Merit Badge with his Scoutmaster signature.

I will take the first 8 scouts who email or call me, please include a contact phone #. Once we have the 8 Scouts I will send out an E-mail with more details.

Unfortunately there may be more than 8 scouts who want to take the class, so once the class is full and you do not make the class I will email you informing you that I will put your name and contact information on the list for a future class.

I look forward to working with you.

Thanks,
Rodney Gibson / Woodworking Merit Badge Councilor
