Longhorn Council District Re-alignment

Longhorn Council District Re-alignment has been approved

A few weeks ago at the last Longhorn Council Board Meeting, the District Service Assessment Plan was approved, which re-aligns the 16 districts into 12 districts starting in March 2020.

We have been having discussions about this over the last couple of months at Council and District meetings.   The goal was to look at the Total Available Youth , and to keep school districts in tact, as much as possible.  With all the changes occurring in Scouting, it was time.  As the LDS church, transitions out, and girls have been added to both Cub Scouts and Scouts BSA, the districts were becoming unbalanced.

Our new district, will be the boundaries of the Arlington, Mansfield and Kennedale ISDs, basically merging the Cross Timbers and Tejas districts.   Joint Key 3 meetings between the two districts have already started.  We will begin joint Roundtable, District Committee and Commissioners meetings in January.  A new District Committee will be official in March.  Meeting locations are likely to move to more central locations in the I-20 area.    The new district will likely have a new name, which is being encouraged by the Longhorn Council.  Discussions have already started on the new name, possibly combining Cub Day camps, Training committee, Membership committee, and what the combined district committee might be.

Any questions or concerns, please let me know, discussions will continue at all district meetings.

Thank You for all that you do for Scouting!

David Shuford

Cross Timbers District Chairman
