The key to a successful archery program is a trained staff. If quality Archery is part of your Troop, Team, or Crew program, send your candidate to the USA Archery Level I (basic Instructor course being sponsored by Longhorn Council (used to be NAA Level 1). The course is 12 hours in length and costs $75.  It includes all necessary Archery Instructor training and materials. It's excellent for senior youth. This is a 2 day class.

The training course outline is the official archery instructor course used by both the USA Archery (formerly NAA) and NFAA. The course will be presented by Course Director David Owens.  Course size is limited to first 20 pre-paid candidates. Registration deadline is Thursday, Sept. 20th so materials can be ordered.

Instructor candidates will learn to operate a safe and educational Archery Range. An Instructor manual is issued and teaching methods are practiced. Certification is valid 3 yrs. This course and certification is required to run archery activities for Scouts, Teams, Crews, etc., and is required to reserve and run any camp LHC Archery range. Instructor cards are only issued per USA Archery procedures. In addition, activities required for the Archery Merit Badge will be addressed, i.e. string-making, arrow building, along with BSA policies.

Course Requirements:

Be registered with a Boy Scout Troop, Varsity Team, or Venturing Crew…other participants are welcome understanding they will be on Scout property.

Pass a written archery test with a score of 75% or better, and

Serve effectively as a student instructor during training.

Shooting skills are not required, but helpful. Camp archery equipment will be supplied by Longhorn Council, sponsor of this NADA Basic Archery Instructor training course.
