APRIL 17TH eNEWSLETTER
 A CELEBRATION OF VOLUNTEERS!
On April 15, the Longhorn Council conducted its Annual Business Meeting and Recognition Dinner.  The meeting and dinner was held at the Will Rogers Inn in Fort Worth.  Joe Woodwell, formerly of Tonkawa District, served as the Master of Ceremonies.
The first order of business after the musical opening by Monarch and the pledge and invocation by Scouts Katie Redburn and Zachary Froelich was the report of the Nominating Committee.  Council President Frosty Tempel and John Penn representing the Nominating Committee submitted for approval and vote the names of Council Members-At-Large, Executive Board members, Advisory Board members, Officers and Executive Committee members, Foundation Directors, National Council Representatives and District Chairpersons.
Past president Frosty Tempel was recognized by incoming president Jim Patton for his two years of service as council president.  Jim the spoke to the State of the Council.
Mike Barnard, Vice-President of Administration for the council, presented the Journey to Excellence awards for the council.  Journey to Excellence is the strategic improvement plan of the BSA that recognizes achievements of district and councils in selected areas.  Awards were presented to districts in Bronze, Silver and Gold categories.  The council was recognized with a Bronze award, leading the area in retention at 71%.
Paul Phillips was recognized by John Penn of the Longhorn Council NESA (National Eagle Scout Association) Committee as the recipient of the Glenn A. and Melinda W. Adams National Eagle Scout Service Project of the Year Award.  This scholarship is awarded for the best Eagle Scout Service Project in the nation.  Look for more on Paul's project in an upcoming issue.
Larry Morton of the council Endowment committee recognized James E. West recipients in 2013 and presented awards to Diane Morrison, Jim Hamilton, Frosty Tempel and Lee Barrett.
Lifesaving Award stories will be highlighted in upcoming issues. A Certificate of Merit was presented to Luis Trejo.  Medals of Merit were presented to Roark Anderson and Christopher Cooper. Honor Medals were presented to Alex Fuentes, Danny Little and Samuel Little.
National Youth Leadership Awards were presented to Adam Derrick Crandall and Andrew Busby.
Silver Beaver Awards will be featured in future issues. View past recipients of the award.
