Greetings Texas Powder Horn Alumni,
Powder Horn is BSA's most exciting advanced training program using expert consultants and hands-on activities to allow participants to experience and see the possibilities for high adventure in their own units. Because you personally experienced this and shared your amazing Texas Powder Horn stories with other scouters, the course has grown into one of the only annual courses of its type in the country today. We know you share our pride and desire to see this successful program continue to grow to benefit other scout leaders following in your footsteps. You lived the tremendous experience of Texas Powder Horn successfully and we are now asking you to become a "Powder Horn Ambassador" and continue to share your stories to influence others to gain the same great experience you did!
As a Powder Horn Ambassador, you will encourage Crew Advisors and Crew Leaders to register for this invaluable training, but don't stop there; let Scoutmasters, Assistant Scoutmasters, Sea Scout Skippers, Cub Scout Leaders and mature youth leaders know that this "High Adventure" training is for them too and not just for those in the Venturing program. Texas Powder Horn has been carefully crafted over the years to provide the high adventure resources that scout leaders need to run exciting programs, while being fully compliant with the policies and guidelines of the Boy Scouts of America. We are asking you to become part of a select scouting network that understands how high adventure activities can benefit a unit.
One tried and true way is sharing your personal experiences as a way to introduce high adventure programs into your unit. Tell your friends and others in scouting of your treks that may have ranged from Mexico to the Swiss Alps and/or everything in between; explain how you added scuba, kayaking, backpacking, shooting, sailing or climbing and how other high adventures were made possible by you attending Texas Powder Horn. Tell scouters in your unit and your district what it feels like to rappel off a rock face, handle a mountain bike on a trail, how it felt to master your balance on a standup paddle board on a lake or kayak with an Olympian. Then give them the attached 2015 Texas Powder Horn flyer for the course weekends of September 11-13 and September 25-27 at historic Camp Tahuaya, near Belton, Texas made possible through the continued partnership of the Capitol Area and Longhorn Councils.
As a Powder Horn Ambassador, we also invite you to join our Facebook page at "Texas Powder Horn" so that you can share your memories and photos of not only your course, but of your resulting high adventure experiences. It is a great place to network high adventure resources across the state and to participate in discussions on climbing, shooting, backpacking and more. You are an important part of a proud legacy and you can help us by making youth and adults aware of this opportunity to get the best instruction and resources available to run an exciting high adventure program!
For the Boys & Girls,
