Pancake Dinner

In 1965, a new Boy Scout troop in Arlington decided to hold a Pancake Supper to raise funds to go back packing in Big Bend.  They went all out and had pancakes, sausage, bacon, juice, and coffee.  50 years later that troop is still holding their annual Pancake Supper for their scouts to earn their way to go back packing in the Pecos Wilderness of New Mexico.  And it's still ALL YOU CAN EAT:  Pancakes, Sausage, Bacon, Juice, and Coffee.

Knights of Columbus Hall

OA Chapter Meeting

Arrowmen,
1)   It's time for Vigil elections to the Order of the Arrow.  Attached is a list active OA members eligible for selection to receive the Vigil Honor.  Forms must be received in the Council Office at Hurst Texas, Vigil Secretary smartin_79@yahoo.com, Lodge Chief samuel_mitchell@sbcglobal.net or Lodge Advisor Bill Pinkerton bpink@sbcglobal.net  by February 14, 2014, at 5:00 pm, or the nomination will not be considered.
The Vigil Honor is conferred annually as a national recognition upon OA members for noteworthy service to others through the OA and Scouting.  All candidates for the Vigil Honor must have been Brotherhood members for two years or longer at the time of selection by the Vigil Honor Selection committee, and all candidates must be in good standing with the lodge at time of selection.
The Order of the Arrow handbook states "It is a mark of distinction and recognition reserved for those Arrowmen who, by reason of exceptional service, personal effort, and unselfish interest, have made distinguished contributions beyond the immediate responsibilities of their position or office, to one or more of the following: their lodge, the Order of the Arrow, Scouting, or their Scout camp."
I have attached the llist of eligible members for 2014 and the Vigil Nomination Form.  Our Chapter is Talahi #29 but I have listed all eligible from the Lodge.  Please consider nominating those Arrowmen you feel are worthy of this honor.
2)   Also, your Chapter Chief, Drew McKee, will be going over election procedures and conducting election training.  We really need help conducting unit elections to induct new members from your troops, so your help running those elections is needed.  Please volunteer to help conduct elections; that's one of the requirements for the Onward Arrowman award (form attached).
3)   Please note - because of a scheduling conflict, the location of the Spring Fellowship has been changed fron Camp Tahuaya to Sid Richardson!!!!!!   Spring Fellowship will still be March 7-9, and food, fun, and fellowship are still on the agenda!
4)  Finally, I have this year's dues cards now, and I'll have them at the meeting tonight.  Be the first Scout on your block with a new 2014 dues card - still a bargain at only $10 for the entire year!!!
As always, the Talahi Chapter meets the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m., at the Elks Lodge, located at 601 W. Pioneer Pkwy, Arlington, TX 76010.   Our next scheduled meeting is at 7:30 PM on Tuesday, January 21, 2014  The chapter officers and I would like to invite all Arrowmen to attend our meeting.   If you're a regular attendee, it will be great to see you again.  If you haven't been to a meeting in a while, please come and reconnect with the Order of the Arrow - we've missed you!
Yours in Brotherhood,
Gary Faletti
Talahi Chapter Adviser

Cub Scout Roundtable

This is a reminder to all Cub Scout Leaders that we are having a joint meeting with the Boy Scouts tomorrow night.  The topic is Religious Awards.  I think this is one of the most important programs in scouting and one of the least emphasized.  Please get as many from your pack as possible to the meeting.

As usual, Roundtable is at 7:30 pm at Pantego Christian Academy.  This month it is on Tuesday, January 14th.

Ron Ronalder, Cub Scout Roundtable Commissioner
