Cub Scout Roundtable

Semper Gumby!
Always be Flexible!
Those who came to the September Roundtable understand the concept.  Due to preschool recruitment at Pantego Christian Academy we were unable to meet in the library.
We will meet as regularly scheduled on Tuesday, October 8, at 7:30 pm.  We will cover the topics that were originally scheduled for last month.  Again, this is an excellent opportunity to bring all of your leaders in order to give them a broad overview of the scouting program. With the start of a new Cub Scouting year, make an effort to get everyone on board for an exciting year.
In addition, recharter packages will be available at the October Roundtable.  Come and get them so that you can have them completed as early as possible.
See you Tuesday,
Ron Ronalder, Cub Scout Roundtable Commissioner

October Scout Roundtable

Be Prepared.
We have all heard that before. The October Scout Roundtable is designed to help you and those around you to "Be Prepared".

At the October 8th Scout Roundtable, 7:30 PM, we will have a program that may save your life. Violence in the work-place, at school, at sporting events, in shopping malls and even at Church seems to be an ever recurring news event. Headlines that read: "Shooter Takes Hostages" is an all-too-often happening. Because such violence is growing it really could happen to you; maybe at a Scout activity.  The next Roundtable program will be conducted by awarded Law Enforcement Officer Daniel Sherwin who is also an Eagle Scout and Silver Beaver recipient from Longhorn Council. Daniel has been in local law enforcement for 25 years and has a distinguished career and extensive resume. He will present Seven Active Listening Skills that are used in Hostage Negotiations that are designed to de-escalate active shooter situations and contain irate persons.  This session may help save your life or those in your care. You are encouraged to attend this very informative presentation.

BUT ALSO, we are going to have a pre-Roundtable gathering. Beginning at 7pm, Council representatives will inform units how they may qualify for free cloth rank advancement awards for your unit. To qualify for free advancement awards a unit representative is required to attend this pre-roundtable presentation.

All of this and announcements too! See you October 8th, Pantego Christian Academy, on Park Row.

Scout Volunteers Needed!!

Hello leaders and advisors,
After Dark in the Park needs some venturers and older scouts to volunteer and teach younger kids how to do some of the things mentioned in the attached flyer. These would definitely be volunteer hours and a great way to recruit. I'm going to be there at some points to give parents info on how to sign their kids up for scouts. You will be teaching valuable skills and helping out XT district gain some membership. Let me and Alma know what shift you can take.

Jack G. Smith Scout Building - free Scout Stuff

This is an important announcement for all units in Cross Timbers district!
Due to Health and Safety issues, the Jack G. Smith Scout Building, located at First and Mesquite streets in Arlington, has been scheduled to be demolished.  This decision was made after thoughtful consideration and discussion.
Although this is a sad occasion, it provides a unique opportunity for all units in the district.  Saturday, September 28th, from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm the building will be open for the dispersal of scouting materials and equipment to all interested parties.  I have conducted a preliminary review of the building with Brian Sepulveda, Activities Minister at First Baptist.  The amount of equipment available is staggering.  A partial list includes the following:
Sleeping Bags
Coleman Lanterns
Back packs
Mess Kits
Chuck Boxes
Rope
Old Boys Life Magazines
As you can see, this is an opportunity not to be missed.  Just to make it better, all items are free!
The important thing to remember is that this is a first come, first pick event.  We will not be taking hold orders, so come early to get items for your unit.  In addition, this is a one day event, we will not have a subsequent opportunity to get these items.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
I hope to see you Saturday morning,
Ron Ronalder, Cub Scout Roundtable Commissioner, XT district

Important Monthly Updates

Hello All!

I have a few important items to share with everyone. First off I have a few people that try to get in touch with someone at council and sometimes there is a problem so here is my Cell Phone: 817.676.8731.

TRAINING: Attached is a PDF titled "What makes a trained leader" I would like you to take a look at when you have time. We have a new training chair, Richard Kincaid, and he is ready to get some BALOO and IOLS trainings set up. We need trainers and participants. Because we have been without a training chair for quite some time all feedback and needs you may have are welcomed. His contact info is as follows: kincaidrichard@hotmail.com and 972.953.5896.

FOS: If we have not had a conversation about goal setting that needs to happen ASAP. The PDF attachment with the random numbers is a copy of the "Goal Card" and the requirements needed to get your free cloth rank advancement items (yes this does include merit badges). Please look at it and let me know when we can set a date for the presentation. On our website, there is more info on all the new features of FOS this year that makes it quite painless.

MEMBERSHIP: We need 500 new scouts across XT to break even with last year's recruitment efforts. If you need any materials from me to promote your unit/program I will make myself available to you any time. Also, I heard a great idea from a few other DEs around here. Attach little slips of paper or stickers to halloween candy about your unit/scouts! This is great at a church fall festival or trunk or treat event as well.

FALL CAMPOREE: Now the fun part! Fall camporee is set and ready to roll! Worth Ranch campsites Austin, Fulkerson, and Breitling are our sites to host over 200 campers at the camporee this year. November 15,16, and 17 are the dates and the theme is "game design". Bring your favorite games, gear, and completed requirements 1-6 on the game design merit badge to complete it that weekend. While we do not have the dinning hall reserved, each site has a pavillion to use in case of rain. Please bring your own food for your unit. PRICE: $10 Dollars for Scouts and $5 for Adults. If you have ideas or any info at all please contact Rudy Mappus at rmappus@bh.com or 817/229-0520. Please RSVP with either one of us as soon as possible.

MEETINGS: The meeting for the Spring Camporee tonight is canceled. Please contact John Scrifes to attend the next or to add ideas at johnscrifres@yahoo.com. Don't forget all are welcome to Round Table which is the second Tuesday of the month at Pantego Christian Academy. If you don't have representation there you may miss out on important info but if you know you won't be there and need something from me I will get it to you without a problem.

LDS: Mr. Thorpe is helping coordinate a special day to train the ward presenters for the FOS presentation. We will come to you with the materials you need; we just need the contact info of each presenter when possible. After this we will set the goals for each ward to help you get free cloth rank advancement for your ward/units. By the way, I would love my LDS units to come to the camporee Friday night and Saturday!

Thank you for continuing your support in scouting and taking the time to read this monthly email. Have a great weekend (we're almost there!)
