When’s the last time you were at Philmont?  If it wasn’t last year, it’s been too long!  Every Cub Scout, Boy Scout and/or Venturing leader is welcome to join the Longhorn Council and learn world-class leadership skills in the most beautiful setting of all – the Philmont Backcountry.  This Longhorn Council course is one of only a very few ways you will get to participate in any backcountry events this year.  We will learn for three days at Rayado Ridge followed by three days at Zastrow.  Where else can you see some of the best of Philmont at a great price, especially this year?
We have less than (10) spots left in this course, so please get your application in quickly.  We need your commitment by August 17, 2018. **Camperships are available for earlier registration.
Every youth deserves a trained leader.  Our staff has completed their course development and is prepared to lead you in a Mountain Top Wood Badge Experience.  This leader-development program will help you not only in Scouting, but also at home and at work.  Come away from the course with valuable new skills, great resources, and new friends!

Reminder LHC Operations Workshop

Dear Robert,
Since the first workshop invitation went out there have even more exciting changes in the Scouting movement. It is still an exciting time to be a part of the Boy Scouts of America! Despite what you may hear or read, we are still the Boy Scouts of America!
Please join the Longhorn Council Executive Committee, Saturday, June 2 for our annual district workshop. This annual workshop is for all district volunteers. Whether a new or returning member of the district committee, we want you to be a part of this workshop.
The workshop agenda includes Family Scouting, Journey to Excellence and special strategic planning breakouts for finance, membership and program conducted by council executive officers.
The operations workshop will be held at the LHC Hurst Service Center, 850 Cannon Dr, Hurst, 76054. The doors open at 8:30 AM and the workshop will begin at 9:00 AM. We will conclude the general portion of the workshop after lunch. Some council operating committees may meet in the afternoon with an additional agenda.
Please reply to this email if we can count you in for the workshop and lunch. Our executive staff will whip up a delicious grilled lunch.
I look forward to seeing you on Saturday, June 2 at the Hurst Service Center.
Yours in Scouting,
Joe Schneider

The LDS Church's Future Relationship with the BSA

Cross timber Scouters,
I normally do not take time to comment on posts. This one happened to stick out and just wanted to add my 2 cents..

Before I was in Scouting I knew nothing, and no one that has part of the LDS church.. (at least I did not know and never discussed it.)

Because of day camps and other activities, I have had the pleasure to get to know many members of the church and even feel I have a few friends in the faith. Many of the members have made huge impacts on my life and many boys live's in district and beyond.

I am very saddened by this announcement, and wish them well.

Robert Bake
