Once again, we've had two great callouts - One at the camporee, and one at Pappy Elkins Park. I'd like to thank all those Scouts, Scouters, parents and family members who came out in the cold to share this event with the Talahi Chapter.

On April 15, the Longhorn Council conducted its Annual Business Meeting and Recognition Dinner.  The meeting and dinner was held at the Will Rogers Inn in Fort Worth.  Joe Woodwell, formerly of Tonkawa District, served as the Master of Ceremonies. The first order of business after the musical opening by Monarch and the pledge and invocation by Scouts Katie Redburn and Zachary Froelich was the report of the Nominating Committee.  Council President Frosty Tempel and John Penn representing the Nominating Committee submitted for approval and vote the names of Council Members-At-Large, Executive Board members, Advisory Board members, Officers and Executive Committee members, Foundation Directors, National Council Representatives and District Chairpersons. Past president Frosty Tempel was recognized by incoming president Jim Patton for his two years of service as council president.  Jim the spoke to the State of the Council. Mike Barnard, Vice-President of Administration for the council, presented the Journey to Excellence awards for the council.  Journey to Excellence is the strategic improvement plan of the BSA that recognizes achievements of district and councils in selected areas.  Awards were presented to districts in Bronze, Silver and Gold categories.  The council was recognized with a Bronze award, leading the area in retention at 71%. Paul Phillips was recognized by John Penn of the Longhorn Council NESA (National Eagle Scout Association) Committee as the recipient of the Glenn A. and Melinda W. Adams National Eagle Scout Service Project of the Year Award.  This scholarship is awarded for the best Eagle Scout Service Project in the nation.  Look for more on Paul's project in an upcoming issue. Larry Morton of the council Endowment committee recognized James E. West recipients in 2013 and presented awards to Diane Morrison, Jim Hamilton, Frosty Tempel and Lee Barrett. Lifesaving Award stories will be highlighted in upcoming issues. A Certificate of Merit was presented to Luis Trejo.  Medals of Merit were presented to Roark Anderson and Christopher Cooper. Honor Medals were presented to Alex Fuentes, Danny Little and Samuel Little. National Youth Leadership Awards were presented to Adam Derrick Crandall and Andrew Busby. Silver Beaver Awards will be featured in future issues. View past recipients of the award. CAMP CARD TURN IN DATE CHANGE!!!

I was told that council needs to have camp cards and money turned in by the 9^th. There will not be CC drop off at Round Table. There are two days I will be available in Arlington for this (see below). Please let me know who is dropping what and when.

1)     District Commissioner meeting- Thursday, May 1^st from 6:30-8:15 at Trinity united Methodist church 1200 greeen oaks blvd in Arlington.

2)     District Committee Meeting- Tuesday, May 6^th from 6:30-8:15 at Pantego Lions Club at 3535 Marathon Street in Arlington.

If these are not convenient for anyone I will be in Arlington on Wednesday around noon for Kiwanis Meeting (I'm available before and After) at 1^st UMC and Thursday around noon at St. Vincent De Paul in Arlington. Please call/email/text to arrange a meeting for these.  My cell is 8176768731.

Honor Flight Spring Schedule

OA Callout

 

Leaders,

Unfortunately, the weather doesn't seem to want to cooperate with us this evening.  There was obviously no way of knowing that the temperature would be this low.   Of course there's never any assurance of the weather; it's spring; so if we delayed the callout it could always rain!   And at this late point, I don't know if I could contact all of the Scoutmasters; the only thing that might be worse than holding the callout with cool temperatures would be for several troops to show up and find out that we've postponed.

This is a difficult decision, but I think we just need to go ahead as planned.  Of course, there's no requirement for a callout to do an Ordeal, so if any Scoutmaster feels the weather is too cold to participate you can call your unit mermbers out at one of your meetings within your troop.  If you decide not to participate this evening I'll have candidate packets available for you or your OA Troop Representative to pickup at the OA Chapter meeting tomorrow night at the Elks Lodge.

Order of The Arrow

A couple of important notes:

3) The second (and last) callout is tomorrow night, Monday, April 14, at Pappy Elkins Park in DWG at 7:00pm.  Let's rememer the old saying: to be early is to be on time, to be on time is to be late, to be late is unacceptable.  We want to make sure we're finished by about 8pm since it's a school night.  I'm hoping if we begin at 7 we can make out goal.  Thanks for your cooperation.

3)  As always, the Talahi Chapter meets the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m., at the Elks Lodge, located at 601 W. Pioneer Pkwy, Arlington, TX 76010.   Our next scheduled meeting is at 7:30 PM on Tuesday, April 15, 2014.   This month, let's have ice cream floats and congratulate our new Brotherhood members and everyone else who has earned their Brotherhood.  And those who have not yet earned their Brotherhood can have a float in anticipation of their earning their Brotherhood.  The chapter officers and I would like to invite all Arrowmen to attend our meeting.   If you're a regular attendee, it will be great to see you again.  If you haven't been to a meeting in a while, please come and reconnect with the Order of the Arrow - we've missed you!

don't forget that there will be an OA callout at the Camporee this weekend.  Remember to bring your sash.  If you're unable to make the Camporee there will be another callout at Pappy Elkins Park on Monday, April 14, at 7pm.

Also, if you're interested in doing your Brotherhood and sealing your membership in the OA, there will be a Brotherhood opportunity at the Camporee.  I've attached the BH Q&A sheet to this email.

OA Callouts & Ordeals

Arrowmen & Leaders,

A few important OA dates:

The District Camporee is this weekend, April 11-13, and the OA calllout will be Saturday, April 12.  A follow-up callout will occur Monday, April 14 at Pappy Elkins Park at 7:pm.

The first 2 Ordeals will be at SR2 May 2-4, and at CT May 16-18.

The Camporee and both Ordeal weekends are all Brotherhood opportunities.

If you are uncertain who in your troop was elected, drop me an email & I'll remind you.
